That Place called Sagada

Just cannot mention Sagada without referencing to that recent famous movie "That Thing Called Tadhana." I had the Sagada trip before the movie, so unfortunately, there is no Mt. Kiltepan here but there are so many other sights and places that can be marveled at.

1. Wake up early and see the sight

We stayed at this cozy lodge called HomeStay where we were able to get a marvelous view of the distant mountains especially in the morning when the clouds seem to be rising from them. This moment of serenity matches a cup of steaming coffee.

 2. Visit the Pottery

We watched a demonstration of how pots were made from clay and they even allow you to "try" to mold the pot while its still on the potter's wheel. All the unfinished pots were strictly not for touching but their finished ones can be handled with care. Once broken, it is considered sold. I got to say, hand-made pots are not cheap.

3. Visit Church of St. Mary

We dropped by the old Anglican church to thank Him for a pleasant and safe trip. It was raining the day before and the roads were slippery. But the day was all warm and sunny, fit for exploring.

4. Shout out at Echo Valley

Can't visit Mt. Kiltepan? why not shout at Echo Valley instead. I kind of cringed at the scene where Mace belted out her frustrations when they reached the mountain. Why disturb the peace? Besides, in Echo Valley, you get a reply.

5. Hike to the Hanging Coffins

One of the reasons why people flock the place is to catch a sight of this very old tradition. It may be only one of the few places left where they were able to preserve this custom. And if you already are in Echo Valley, its only a few feet downhill.

6. Walk around the main street

Because of the small size of the town proper of Sagada, we were able to explore and see what other things Sagada offers. Although they were able to preserve the simplicity of rural living, it was noticeable how stores and shops and even accommodations were customized for tourists.

Famous for their pinikpikan with iteg (smoked meat).

I was able to try their delicious pinikpikan.

There are other things to do like cave spelunking (which I did do during my first visit) but was not able to during this trip. But just ask around and please be courteous. The friendly people of Sagada will be more than willing to help you make your stay an enjoyable one so long as you treat the place and the people with respect. :) (Same goes with all places)
